Weather display vs weathercat3/4/2023 ![]() Most of the time you'll probably want the weather report for the part of the world in which you live, so you'll want to make sure Google Home knows exactly where that is. Here's how you can access all the useful, fun and sometimes otherworldly weather information Google Home can give you beyond just the standard weather report. You can get info on air quality, sunrise and sunset times, wave conditions, river levels and even atmospheric conditions on Jupiter, if you're planning any interplanetary travel. By knowing what to ask, you can access vastly more information than the standard Google Home weather report. Google smart speakers and displays use data from The Weather Channel by default, but that doesn't mean it's the only one available to you. Google Home can actually give you even better and more useful information than just today's temperature and humidity, if only you ask the right questions. Being able to get an accurate, reliable weather forecast on-demand just by asking for it is amazing, but if all you're doing is asking Google Assistant about the weather, you're missing out. wee_import can import directly from WU.And Google Nest smart speakers can do, reporting the weather is among the coolest (or warmest, depending on the season). One thing you may or may not have considered (and I shudder for mentioning it) is if you have previously posted your data to Weather Underground you may find you have 'better' data there. These should come across OK given your data. Cumulative obs (rain is the obvious one though you do have windrun as well) are treated differently as the key daily aggregate is the daily total. The weeWX daily hi and low values will be derived from the values you import. How you derive that single value to be imported for that hour is up to you, but remember if you want to keep the daily hi/lows that you presently have one of your imported records for the day must have the daily hi and another must have the daily low. When you import, wee_import will want single outTemp value for a given time your data has (for most) the hour hi and hour low values. Since you only have hour-by-hour data you have lost the 'resolution' that comes with minute(s)-by-minute(s) data (eg time of max outTemp for the day), the best you will get from the hour-by-hour data you have are the daily max/min/totals, your hi/low times will be at best ballpark (ie within the hour). As Tom said importing with a 1 hour interval will work, but you will need to massage your data. I guess the 'best' data is the minute(s)-by-minute(s) but if that is not available your next best is hour-by-hour. Of course if I have misunderstood something and there is some other WeatherCat data available similar in resolution to the Weather Display data then we might be in business. If this is the case I would not even bother importing the WeatherCat data. Based on you WeatherCat data we have seen so far you don't have this other than for data by day data in the NOAA reports. WeeWX can handle data with any or multiple interval values but the underlying weewWX archive data is essentially the average or the sum (depending on the observation type) of the observation over the interval. The problem with this data is that it is essentially a list of hourly highs and lows which is not what weeWX requires. cat file data in any form? It appears the only WeatherCat data we have seen so far is summary data, the best resolution being hour by hour. The concern I have is the WeatherCat data. Weather view is mentioned in one post, I presume this is a typo and in fact you meant Weather Display. The NOAA format report provides summary data data by day for 1 month at at time. The daily summary provides highs and lows, hour by hour for one day per file. The only WeatherCat data we have seen have been have been some sort of daily summary and NOAA format monthly reports. cat files which, judging by the WeatherCat manual, should contain a month of data. Import looks like it will work (43000 odd lines) albeit with multiple interval values. This data will need some manipulation to put it into CSV format for import. (I am) unsure of the document format (pdf, txt or something else). Around about 1 year of data seemingly with a 1 minute interval. From your posts so far I understand you have:
